The much anticipated, Apple Worldwide Developers Conference went underway today at the Moscone West convention centre in San Francisco, California; seeing many rumours like iRadio and Mac OSX Mavericks become reality. But the true star of the event was the unveiling of iOS 7. Met with eager applaud, the mobile operating system confirmed that it was going to be simplistic, that it was going to be bold, that is was going to look like every other mobile OS out there; but did Apple take it too far and copied Windows phone, Android and Web OS once again ?

Last Year's developers conference saw Apple doing the same thing, introducing the notification centre that ripped off Google's Android blind, jumping on the cloud service bandwagon after Google and Amazon had rolled out their's and releasing iMessage that mimicked Blackberry message. At the D11 conference, Tim Cook was asked if Apple can keep up the pace of product innovation, review the comparisons above and below, to make up your own decision.

  1. They do look like copies, but I like their versions a bit better. Look a bit crisper and cleaner.

  2. So, what? Android and Windows blatantly copied from the original iOS. Like the previous commenter said, copied or not, Apple still designs better.

    1. Ha! What did iOS ever have worth copying? It's just a shrunken down PC interface with desktop icons and nothing even remotely interesting or original about it. The same is largely true of Android, only Microsoft have really put any thought into making something truly new. How frightening is that thought? But it's true.

  3. I don't get it when people say android or windows phone 8 is not as clean as Ios. I think this "Clean" stuff is just a way apple fans can talk about there phones. Like seriously how dirty can a phone be???? And the fact people are saying that they like the new Ios and its cleaner than android is a way of saving their asses because just a couple of days ago you could ask an apple fan about android and they would have said it was a terrible design. Viola apple makes it. "Its beautiful" "Revolutionary"
"Well its cleaner than android that's why its better"

The quotes I've said have been from my friend who is a MacTard.

    1. It really doesnt matter because iPhone die hards t hink everything Apple does is the best thing since slice bread, original and innovative blah blah. Most dont use Android, have never seen one and have no idea what a NExus Jelly Bean has. I have a mac and a nexus and keep considering iPhone, which everyone I know has. When I show them things like widgets, some of the creative apps, keyboards like Swiftkey, they are shocked. But they are used to iPhones, they are used to their free annual updates, buying a new phone every 2 years without having to give it a second thought, having the convenience of an Apple store, they are never going to consider anything else. The one thing I found funny was how orgasmic the WwdC audience was ,s tanding up , clapping in awe whenever a feature was announced. Business Insider also has an interesting article where they list 7 features that ios copied form android. Just google it..>It is amazing that iPhone didnt even have toggles

    2. During the entire WWDC event I was literally sitting there going," ....wait, didn't iOS already have that? " because the features were so petty that I honestly thought they were already there. I mean I have grown custom to my N7 and Droid Razr automatically updating (heck I will be reading about some new cool updated version of an app online, look at my phone and it have a checkmark in the notification pane saying it was updated over an hour ago!) so I just kinda figured iOS had this feature!

  4. Let's be honest. There's a reason why Apple's stock is down 37%. They copy everyone else because that's what they do best. The original iPhone was a copy too of other manufacturer's phones and ideas. Do some homework and you'll see.

Apple does not INVENT (sorry fanboys). Apple takes other people's products and ideas then creates a polished looking version which appeals to lots of people. They also make it so simple to use, a caveman can use it. The problem is that iPhone iOS is an inferior operating system that still can't truly multitask. I have a personal Android phone and a work iPhone.

They're also no longer that hip, ultra cool brand to own since lots of older people are buying their products because it's easy to use.

  5. Who's to say... Android could be copying Apple and releasing the software first to make it seem like it's legible. Every time Android comes out with a software, it is complete shit and needs to have at least 3 updates to fix their mistakes. Android needs to sit down and take their time.

Thank you for proving my point.

  7. Hahaha! This is pretty funny, because the examples of "copying" only go back to recent time. Fall further back, and the only phone like them is the original iPhone, where the aspects "copied" by Apple, actually originated there. Let's do some side-by-sides of the WebOS, Android, Windows Phone, etc. next to previous versions of iOS. I think you'll see that the aspects this article says are being copied by Apple, started with Apple, and were just copied, tweaked and released by the other operating systems. Nice try, but anyone who really thinks about it can see that.

    1. The difference is Android/Windows fanboys don't care that their OS contains copied components of iOS. Apple fanboys are the ones who care. Add in the extra hilarity of Apple suing Samsung over rounded corners and you have this sweet, delicious irony.

    2. Never saw any of the phones like the LG prior to the original iPhone, have you?

When did Apple invent the notification bar? Facebook and Twitter integration? Status bar widgets? Preemptive multitasking (as opposed to cooperative multitasking like they've had all along)? Front facing camera (yes, the iP4 was not the first with that)?

Otherwise, I agree that there's really no article here.

  10. the difference is, apple sues like there is no tomorrow when they feel like they are being copied, but now they are turning around and doing the exact same thing. Also, compare the new lockscreen to the default jellybean lock screen. similar much?

  16. When Samsung and Android first showed signs of their path to their current domination of the phone market, Apple sued, sued and cried. Well, actually the fanboys and fangirls cried for them. "The cost of innovation", "the protection of the magic", and so on.

Time went by, many of use switched form our iPhones to S4's or HTC Ones and loved being in control of our phone again.

Now, Apple has decided they have lost, and exercised the right they reserved themselves: shameless copy. Not the first time, and so what, copy is the only way to work around a corrupted patent system.

All of that is cool. The only problems, if we could now get the fanboys and fangirls to Shut-TFU... It's OK that Apple copy! It only matters if you are superstitious enough to drink their Koolaid about magic, minimalism/skeumorphism and personal adoration of the deceased. Get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Seriously? With so many phone OS's you're bound to have features that look similar. I'm glad Apple isn't trying to come up with something that looks like no other phone, because it would have to look like crap to avoid copying other decent phone designs.
I've never seen a nokia lumia lockscreen that looks like that anyway. The iOS7 camera does not have that red button when taking pictures, only video. And over the years a red button has always indicated recording, you can't even mention originality when talking about that idea. iOS7 and lumia messaging don't even look similar here minus the color theme (which you can change on lumia). Unless the picture references sent and received being on right or left side of the app? That's been there since iPhone 1 haha. The browser Opera did tab preview in 2006 too.
Point is, author has no point. Every phone company has copied an idea from elsewhere. Though I am pleased that the best thing people can come up with to rag on Apple about is their originality.

  20. Well some of the examples are real bull****. I mean come on the lock screen ? Yeah Microsoft invented the lock screen with only a picture on it. Even the multi tasking. Do you know that exactly this design existed before WP 8 in the jailbreak community? No WP 8 steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeals oh nooo!

Come on and relax. If android listen to the community and copying and enhancing existing stuff then it's a great progress. When Apple starts to listen to the community and using existing ideas / different concepts from the alternative projects then it's stealing. Lol that is a fine (UN)logic.

I would not say that Apple copied here but of course they've got a lot of impressions and ideas from it's competitors and its jb community! For me this is okay because this was something Apple really needed to start because they would stick with it's non power user compatible OS forever..

Furthermore this is a first step so it's okay. At least yes of course you should be proud as android and windows users, because you created some designs and ideas that are really great. So great that Apple throws some own ideas away to adapt different concepts. This shows that you're OS does things in good way, same as in the old days where android and others copied from iOS.

The main point is the same as ever. It's completely unimportant what Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and others does. The fanboys will take every action regardless of their emotion to push ther holy religious faith against the hated competitors. This time Apple listened to the community and changed itself to get fanboy wars again.. its never going to change.

  23. Why reinvent the wheel? They also say that emulation is the greatest form of flattery and we all know that Apple have never really pioneered anything "new"; iPod/MP3, Tablet/Palm/Microsoft Slate, etc. Realistically though if we get into the nitty gritty of who copied who and who did what first we may as well stop development right now...

what? .. when Apple gets its hands on your $$$, very little goes to the people who actually do the manufacturing. The Chinese who manufacture the products aren't doing the stealing.

  25. Wow. Came to this site via google link and found 3 articles about Apple copying others. Is this an Apple haters website or what? The ridiculous thing is how 99% of the commenters have no idea how big business is ran so their opinions are misguided. Who cares who copied who? Buy what you like and don't buy what you don't. Arguing in a comments section of a website isn't going to change a single person's mind on the matter. Oh, and by the way, just a little revelation for you all: Nobody gives a damn what your opinion is and everyone in the world does NOT have to believe the same thing as you do.
